Marie, Duchess of Anhalt, née Princess Sophie Marie of Baden (born July 26, 1865, died November 29, 1939) was the wife and consort of Friedrich II, Duke of Anhalt. She was the last Duchess of Anhalt, as German royal and noble titles were abolished in 1919 during the Weimar Republic.

The letter:

Vict.
Baden, 2. IV. 1921.
Let me thank you most heartily for your very kind and very touching letter in remembrance of Easter-days long ago which I had the very great satisfaction to celebrate with you in the peaceful comfort and consolation those holy days gave to your sorrowful heart in its deepest affliction. Well do I remember those times and keep gratefully in my heart your confidence in speaking with me about your great trial. Years passed so very quickly ...

Lady O'Conor
