Princess Helen of Waldeck and Pyrmont, later Duchess of Albany (born February 17, 1861, died September 1, 1922), was a member of the British royal family by marriage. She was the fifth daughter and child of George Victor, Count of Waldeck and Pyrmont, and his first wife, Princess Helena of Nassau.

The letter:

CLAREMONT.
ESHER.
Oct 30th 1907
Dear Lady Cowell
For the sake of olden days I feel I must write also to you & tell you, that I am ... a Memorial Purse [illegible] my Husbands Friends — [illegible] on behalf of the Jubilee of the National Hospital for the Paralysed & Epileptic (Albany Memorial) & ask you, if you would also contribute £1 towards it. — Thanks to the kindly response I have had to my £1 collection I have received quite a good sum for the Jubilee; 50 years of good national work & 25 — years the Albany Memorial & so the Nation at large & Friends have helped & contributed till I have almost £20.000 to hand over as the Jubilee Thankoffering to the Hospital. The enclosed papers may interest you with their details. —

Please forgive my typing thus, but just now the past stands specially vividly before me; — You & Your Husband belong to those days, that were the starting point of my life. —

Very just joy has come to me, by my now 5 Grand-Children, — 2 of Princess's & 9 of the Duke's — & it is only through them that I realize the years that have past.

It is very long time now I have not seen you, but I hope past years have been kindy to you & not scared you with fresh sorrows.
Believe me
Yours very sincerely
Helen.
